Conditions

Below is a list of the Medical Conditions which the Consultants at North West Gynaecology will be able to help you with:

Ovarian Cysts

These are a common finding on ultrasound scan.  Some women may have had an ultrasound for a specific reason such as pain, or they may have been found incidentally whilst having a scan for an unconnected reason.  Ovarian cysts can sometimes cause pain or swelling in the lower abdomen.

Pelvic Inflammatory Disease (PID)

What is PID? Pelvic inflammatory disease refers to infection leading to inflammation of the tissues of the upper genital tract including the inner lining of the womb, fallopian tubes, ovaries and lining of the pelvis (peritoneum).

Pelvic Pain

What is it? Pelvic pain is one of the most common reasons why women are seen in hospital during reproductive life (from 15-45 years). It can occur at any time (sporadic) or it can be more usually linked to a particular phase of the menstrual cycle (cyclical).

Post Menopausal Bleeding (PMB)

What is postmenopausal bleeding? This is vaginal bleeding which occurs more than twelve months after a woman’s last period after she has reached the menopause.  Unexpected bleeding in women who are taking hormone replacement therapy (HRT) should also be considered as post-menopausal bleeding.

Pre-menstrual Syndrome

What is it? Pre-menstrual syndrome (PMS) is a disabling condition that affects women during the latter part of the menstrual cycle and has no detectable cause. What problems arise from it? It causes physical and psychological symptoms that include fluid retention, tension, anger, irritability, depression and other personality changes.
