Dr MacKintosh is a consultant gynaecologist and gynaecological oncologist. She qualified from the University of Manchester, undertook general training in Obstetrics & Gynaecology in the North West of England and went on to complete subspecialty training in Gynaecological Oncology at St. Mary’s Hospital and The Christie Hospital, Manchester. She has also completed additional training in advanced surgical techniques for ovarian cancer in an internationally renowned centre in Germany and is a Royal College of Obstetricians & Gynaecologists accredited gynaecological oncology surgeon
She was awarded an MD by the University of Manchester for her research into the effects of obesity and weight loss on endometrial cancer risk and has published widely and presented internationally on the subject. She has also been involved in the development of national guidelines on the management of uterine cancer and has written several book chapters.
Dr MacKintosh was appointed as an NHS consultant in gynaecological oncology at St. Mary’s Hospital, Manchester in 2018, where she is heavily involved in providing high-quality patient care through her additional roles in Clinical Effectiveness and as Mortality & Morbidity Lead. As well as caring for women with proven or suspected gynaecological cancers she is also a BSCCP accredited colposcopist, specialising in the management of abnormal smear tests and vulval disorders. She is able to provide advanced level laparoscopic and open surgery to manage these and other gynaecological complaints such as menstrual problems, ovarian cysts, fibroids and endometriosis.
